What happened in chapter 6 - chapter 10?:

8Chapter six begins where the fifth chapter left off, in the past. After getting permission from his family to move to La Jolla for the summer, Vince and Rosie see each other for the first time since the night of the party. Rosie’s sister, Grace, demands that they remain friends as a condition of their hanging out - no relationships. After having just gotten out of a relationship with Vince’s cousin, Sal, Grace isn’t feeling too friendly towards the Morenos.
They spend the whole summer together, getting to know each other. When the summer comes to an end, Rose finds out that her mom wants her to move to Nevada. Grace and Sal, who ended up getting back together and are now engaged, fight for Rose to stay. Rose’s relationship with her mother is complicated, and it turns out her mother was using her as leverage to get what she wanted from Grace - the promise of a job at her restaurant in the future.
Before Vince leaves for the summer, he tells her he loves her, and he kisses her. They’re both devastated at having to be split apart until next summer, but he comes to visit as often as possible.
On one visit, Vince sees one of Rose’s male friends, Ben, heavily flirting with her, and becomes enraged. Rose is able to convince him they’re just friends, but there’s something about the way that Ben looks at her and speaks to her that makes Vince uncomfortable.
Their next summer together is unexpectedly delayed with Vince gets in trouble for fighting the last week of school - his family won’t let him go to La Jolla for an entire month. He was defending his friend, Anita. Rose is upset that Vince is jeopardizing their future, and she’s even more upset when he lies to his parents to go to a party, where he hangs out with drug dealers and drinks. He apologies, and swears he won’t do it again.
When they’re finally able to see each other again, they make the decision to have sex with each other for the first time.

Favourite Quote:

"Before you my future didn’t matter to me. I’d never given it much thought at all. I’d get a job somewhere or continue to work at the factory with my dad. I’d play it by ear. Who cared? Ever since I met you, all that’s changed. All I ever think about is my future now - our future, and I’m excited about it. You inspire me, Rosie."

Discussion Questions:

  • Do you think Vince is subconsciously sabotaging a future with Rose?

About FATE

When Rose tagged along with her big sister to a baby shower the last thing she expected was to meet a guy. But this wasn't just any guy. This was the exciting, sexy as sin, way out of her league black sheep of his family--Vincent Moreno. Even more surprising, this heart-stopping bad boy seemed interested in her. Fate always had a way of interfering in Vince's best-laid plans. His forced attendance to his annoyingly perfect cousin's baby shower was no different. He was sure to be bored out of his skull, but instead, he met sweet little Rosie Zendejas. What begins as a unlikely friendship between two very different teens turns into one of the most intense and passionate relationships that neither ever saw coming. But just like it had so many times in Vince's troubled past, Fate steps in once again, threatening to take away the one thing he can't seem to even breathe without now--Rose.
