Dirty Little Secret ( Heaven Hill #5) by Laramie Briscoe

Lone survivor
Scared, but tough

Christine Stone has lived through a lot since the day she was born. Her older brother left her without a backwards glance, leaving her with parents who wanted to use her to better themselves in their cult-like religious sect.

Days after legally becoming an adult, she’s given to an older man for an arranged marriage that will change her life forever. Escape is the only way her life can be saved. When she succeeds and sets out to make a new life for herself, she meets Travis Steele—communications and security officer for the Heaven Hill MC.

Protector of secrets
Level-headed and steady

Travis Steele has been on the periphery of the Heaven Hill MC for a long time. Quiet, he takes his job seriously. He is the protector of the group, in charge with keeping family and friends safe.

When one meeting with the sister of his friend turns into more, he struggles with where to draw the line. She needs a friend, and Travis prides himself in being what other people need, often sacrificing himself for others. As he discovers the life that Christine has been forced to live, it opens up old wounds, new wounds, and secrets that everyone thought long buried.

Turning a chance meeting into love is hard, especially when everyone has a dirty little secret.

5 Stars
I seriously have a Obsession with Larmie Briscoe's Heaven Hill series!
Well really anything from Laramie she is one of my favortie authors out there.
I am so eager to see what she has coming next and I am never left un-satisfied.

Dirty Little Secret is Travis's story and it was just the prefect fit for him.
Travis is the Wiz of the club who does all the computer stuff and can find out info at the
drop of a hat it is pretty awesome. In book 5 Travis finds Christine Jagger's sister working as
a stripper at Wet Wanda's.He takes her under his wing gets her out of stripping.Takes care of her.
In the process he is keeping it from his brothers that he is seeing Christine. Christine happens to be on the run from a psychotic husband and is terrified of being found. It has some good drama
Travis is such a sweetie he doesn't rush Christine into anything, but he is slowly falling in love with her as they spent more time together. It takes Christine awhile to trust Travis because she has been threw so much her story is a sad one. I wanted to give her a big hug and tell everything would be OK.On the other hand I wanted to slap her silly and tell her open your eyes girl Travis loves you what are you waiting for!! Dirty Little Secret had the right amount of Drama and Romance. I don't think I can ever give Larmie lower than a 5 star she really deserves more she is such a fantastic writer.

I can not wait to see what book 6 has in store I am rooting for Roni and Rooster!!

We all have secrets.
Secrets well buried.
Until we find the one soul who makes the burden of such secrets just that little bit easier to bear.

Surrounded by her best friends, her loving family and having fulfilled her life-long dream of making the Crimson Tide cheer squad, everything is going exactly as she always dreamed it would. Austin Carillo, starting Wide Receiver for the Alabama Crimson Tide, must get picked in this year's NFL draft. He needs it. His brothers need it. Most importantly, his mother desperately needs it. Brought up in a world where the poor are forgotten, the sick are left to fend for themselves and no hero miraculously appears to pull you out of hell, Austin had no other choice but to make a living on the wrong side of the law—until football offered Austin the break to get his life back on track. But when a family tragedy drags him back into the clutches of the gang he believed he had left far behind, Austin finds himself falling. Falling back into criminal ways and falling deep into a suffocating darkness. Until a troubled yet kindred spirit stumbles across his path, where Austin quickly finds he is falling for a young woman, a young woman who might just have the power to save him from his worst enemy: himself.

Hideaway Cove by Anna Sullivan

Jessi Randal walked away from her last relationship with a baby and a broken heart. Now, years later, the last thing this single mom wants is to give Windfall Island-and all its nosy residents-anything more to gossip about. But the moment she lays eyes on the tall, sexy stranger with the slow Southern drawl, she knows she's in delicious trouble . . .

Holden Abbot is on the island to find the missing heir to the Stanhope family fortune. It's his job to charm as many secrets out of the town as possible. And if he can charm Jessi into his bed, even better. When all evidence points to her as the heir, a dangerous enemy sets his sights on Jessi and her son. Now Holden will have to risk everything to protect the family he's come to love.
4 Stars
Hideaway Cove was such a sweet read. I fell in love with Jessi and Holt.
Jessi got pregnant in high school and the baby's dad up and left her.
7 years later here we are and she is one amazing mom.She lives for her son and doesn't let
anything get between her and her son.She lives for him so much.
Enter Hold he is in town working on a special project and man you cant help
but fall in love with Holt he is so freaking smoking. He comes from money, but doesn't let Jessi really know about his life before coming to the island. Holt like Jessi right away and it is a cute
story of how they fall in love. The drama does come around when Jessi's ex comes into town and
he ruins everything.I could not stand him and I was hanging on to everything that was going on when he entered the picture. I just knew he was a snake!
The over all story was good I really like it and the ending was PERFECT.
Anne did a wonderful job!

Breathless For Him by Sofia Tate (Giveaway)

5/5 Stars
The Title says it all Breathless For Him and that's what I was after reading Sofia's
debut novel I was left Breathless. Sofia gives us the goods with this book just the right amount of Sexiness. I started reading and I fell in love with it after about the 5th page!
In Breathless For Him Sof gives us Davison the best damn piece of man candy known in my neck of the woods. He rocked my world and turned it upside down.Davison is RICH,HOT,SWEET,and did I mention SEXY!! When the book starts out Davison is in a horrible relationship with the evil witch Ashton I hated her just by reading her damn name.I probably sound awful because my name is Ashley sorta similar, but Ashton was just one of those people you know you are going to hate! I wanted to throw a high heel at her head! At first I was like why and the hell is he with her, come on Davison.LOL.Things do eventually get better when she is kicked to the curb and I breathed a heavy sigh of relief.
Than you have Allegra she is just cute as a button.Allegra is an Opera singer, and she works as a coat checker at Le Bistro a high class restaurant. At Le Bistro she meets Davison. They have this sorta instant connection and it happens over a lost glove best part of the whole book!I forgot to mention Allegra is Italian she speaks the language and is the whole Italian package. The Italian language makes the story I loved the way Sof actually Incorporated it into the book by using short Italian phrases here and there made it perfect!
Davison and Allegra's love story is a romantic roller coaster ride with just the right amount of sex. There also is the drama with the Paparazzi since Davison is a well known story on Page Six. Than there is the BIG WTF moment where I wanted to punch something and yell at them both to just be together. I was so frustrated for awhile, but when the drama doesn't stop the romance I was finally able to breath. You can can feel Davison and Allegra's LOVE  the way Sofia wrote the book it is just Magnificent!

Purchase Breathless For Him on Amazon July 1st
I cant wait to see what Sofia has in store for us and wont keep us waiting long for her next book!

Unbeloved By Madeline Sheehan

4/5 Stars
Warning: This is not a conventional or predictable love story. It involves one woman and two men bound by a love so destructive it spans two decades, pitting brother against brother, and shattering the lives of those touched by it.
Dorothy Kelley is a born romantic, searching for her prince. Instead she finds herself pregnant at fifteen, and a in a loveless marriage by the tender age of eighteen.
Then hope comes riding into her life on a motorcycle and within weeks, Jason “Jase” Brady, a member of the Hell’s Horsemen motorcycle club, sweeps Dorothy off her feet.
But nothing is ever simple for Dorothy. Jase is married with children. And as Dorothy patiently waits for Jase to give her the happily-ever-after she’s been dreaming about, James “Hawk” Young, a member of the Hell’s Horsemen with secrets of his own, sees an opening into Dorothy’s life and takes it.
Carrying on two secret affairs is no easy feat. As Dorothy tries to dig herself out of the mess she’s created, covering one mistake with another, tragedy strikes, nearly costing Dorothy her life and that of her unborn son.
What follows is a long and painful journey of self-discovery and forgiveness, as Dorothy comes to realize that home was exactly where she’d left it, and the love she’d forever craved had always been within her reach.
This is the story of Dorothy,Jase, and Hawk.
We are all born pure; it is our journey that burdens us and leads us astray. Our mistakes that beat us down and cover us in guilt and shame, burying us a little more with each passing hardship. It is up to us to dig ourselves out, to come to terms with our faults, to embrace not only our imperfections but those of the ones we love, and to once again find the path we strayed from.

I have a huge liking for MC books there is just something about them that I cant help but love.
When I was first introduced to them Undeniable by Madeline Sheehan was my first and was hooked!
Madeline knows how to write a damn good MC book. I could not wait for Unbeloved it seemed like I have waited ages for it to come out. When it did and I downloaded it I couldn't help but start reading right away. I was hooked on the first page seriously Dorothy is totally different than I had pictured and I really grew to love her.She had been to hell and back.

When Dorthy was first introduce she was what some would call a club whore.
She was having an affair with Jase a member of the Hell's Horseman MC and he is married with kids.
She is so in love with him she keeps this affair going on for quite sometime. In the first couple books I just could not stand her I thought she was a slut and a home wrecker.
Unbeloved changed my mind I grew to love her and actually felt sorry for all the crap she went thru.
While Dorthy was carrying on this affair with Jase she happens to hook up with Hawk and during that hook up she gets knocked up. She is so in love with Jase she tells every one that it is Jase's kid.
Well when Jase's wife has had enough in his antics she goes to the club house and attempts to kill Dorthy.Dorthy has to have the baby early and come to find out the baby is Hawks which is a no no because Jase claimed her and in the MC world and when you fuck another mans property its a total betrayl. When Dorthy was shoot she lost her memory and she had to get it back.

Fast forwards years later and she has recovered and is living away from the MC. I was sorta glad she had gotten away after all that drama, however she still has contact with Hawk because of there son Chris. I really fell in love with Hawk I am glad that he was a good father and in this book you can tell  that he loved Dorthy regardless all the shit she put him thru in the past.He has some major secrets and I was like WHOA DID NOT SEE THAT COMING! I was shocked at at the punch that Madeline gave Unbeloved it was AMAZING!

After regaining her memory Dorthy wants nothing to do with Jase and Jase is very upset he has lost his wife who went to prison for a attempted murder and his daughters hate him and wont even talk to him. He pretty much is drinking his life away.I was glad things were bad for Jase because he really put Dorthy thru hell it was just awful the way he treated her.Not only that he ruined his wife and daughter life's.He was never man enough to choose between his Wife and Dorthy.
I really wish there was more of an ending for him tho I didn't feel there was enough of Jase in this book. That is why I gave it 4 stars and not 5 it really is a great book just wanted more Jase.

The epilogue was epic and I cant wait to see what is in store for ZZ's story!

From Chapter Two
Ivan is called The Skinner, because he takes great pleasure in skinning his victims while they’re alive. He loves the screams, the smell, the blood, and the clothes he can make.
Only one time in his presence, while my father forced me to watch Ivan perform, had been enough. My only consolation is that I was told the victim was a pedophile, but who knew if that were true or not.
“For that small mercy, I’ll make it quick.” He raises his gun, and I lunge forward, grab the packing razor and throw it at him. It embeds itself in the side of his face, the point sinking into his left eye.
He howls with pain. “Motherfucker.” He doesn’t bother to aim, just starts shooting, as I dive behind the counter. A bullet hits me in the thigh, searing pain ripping through me, and I see stars. Another hits my shoulder, rendering my arm useless.
I lay on my side, panting heavily, and trying to manage the pain as he strides to me. Petrov mutters a curse and kicks me in the ribs.
“I ought to gut you like the pig you are,” he says, pulling the razor from his face. He throws it at me, and it plunges in my hip.
“Fuck,” I growl. My leg throbs. If I don’t get help soon, I’ll bleed out. That is, unless Petrov decides to shoot me once in the heart and three times in the back of the head. It’s his signature. Then again, that might work against him.
“Do it,” I taunt. “Show the world who killed me.”
He shakes his head. “You can bleed. No one will come for you, or me.” Then he stalks out of my bookstore, leaving me lying on the floor.
I yank the razor from my thigh and yell out another curse. Damn Petrov’s family, my family, and the fucking Bratva.
Waves of darkness wash over me, and I pass out.
In what seems like seconds later, I wake up, gasping for air. I blame my comfortable life here for passing out. In the past, two gunshot wounds wouldn’t have stopped me, and Petrov would have never left my store on his own two legs.
The bells ring again. “Come to finish me off, you bastard?”
“Roman? Is that you?” a familiar voice asks. “I left my coat.”
“Everly,” I croak.
Suddenly, she’s by my side, her fingers on my face. At least I won’t die before knowing how soft her skin is, or how tenderly she strokes me.
“Oh my God. Who shot you?”

Rock Country by K.Webster

4/5 Stars
Bobby and June were the best of friends as kids. For two years they spent every waking moment together. And just as they started realizing they had potential to be more, Bobby was unexpectedly uprooted to Las Vegas.

Fast forward fifteen years.

Bobby is now a guitar hero of a very successful rock band. June is wasting away, working at a local diner, and married to an abusive man. Devastating events send Bobby back to Texas to deal with some unsettled issues. When he runs into June, she’s all grown up. No longer that blonde haired, pig-tailed little girl—now she’s the Queen of the South with tanned legs, sexy curves, and more beauty than all the groupies combined. Problem is, June is a shell of her former self—that is, until—Bobby brings the spark back into her life.

What happens when a typical bad boy rocker comes across a sad country song? Why, you get the sweet sound of Rock Country.
What is it about Rock stars that makes me all HOT and TURNED ON?
I think it is just the vibe they give however when you add a little country to the mix it takes it to a whole new level of HOT! K.Webster made my heart swell with this book it is such a beautiful story. It made my heart fill with joy and seriously made my Friday even better!
Rock Country begins with a flashback of Bobby and Junes early days when they were younger and were the best of friends, even tho they were so young they knew they loved each other and that love wasn't something neither could ever let go of.
It speeds up 15 years and June is married to a Ass Munch Markwayne seriously what kind name is Markwayne no offense to those of you who have that name but you have to admit just off the bat you know its a douche name. He is a woman beater and after 7 long years he pushes it to far and beats June so bad she decides its time to get out so she leaves back to her mamas.
Bobby is now in a famous band called The Aces he plays they guitar and he is one sexy man I just wanted to lick him from head to toe. The best thing about him is he is all tatted up which even makes him yummier. He is such a sweetie to June it melted my heart!
Bobby never stopped loving his little June Bug  all these years and when he sees her he cant keep his hands or lips off her. June is a little upset that he hasn't ever came back and wants to know why he is only coming back now that his dad is near death. Bobby has to explain himself and June cant help but love Bobby. There is some Fights,Death, hot band mates Donnie and Chaz are just to die for!
I also have to mention there will be a baby added to the mix which is the best part and makes the book so beautiful.
Bobby and Junes story was the cutest thing and really made me in a good mood
K. Webster added just the perfect amount of romance without forgetting the hot steamy sex.

I’m a thirty-two-year-old self-proclaimed book nerd. Married for nearly eleven years, my husband and I enjoy spending time with our two lovely children. Writing is a newly acquired fun hobby for me. In the past, I’ve enjoyed the role as a reader. However, recently, I learned that I absolutely love taking on the creative role as the writer. Something about determining how the story will play out intrigues me to no end. My husband claims that it’s because I like to control things—in a way, he’s right!
By day, I run around from appointment to appointment, wearing many hats including, mom, wife, part-time graphic designer, blogger, networker, social media stalker, student, business owner, and book boyfriend hunter. (It’s actually a thing—complete with pink camo. I lurk around the internet, “researching” pictures of hot guys who fit the profile of whatever book boyfriend I’m reading or writing about)
I guess you can blame my obsession with books on my lovely grandmother, who is quite possibly my favorite person on the planet. At an early age, she took me to the half-priced bookstore each weekend and allowed me to choose a book. Every single time, she caved when I begged for two. Without her encouragement, I wouldn’t have been able to cope during some hard times without my beloved books.
Currently, I am finishing up my college degree that has taken me forever to complete. It’s just on the list of my many “bucket-list” goals that I subject myself to.
Most days, you can find me firmly planted in front of my computer. It’s my life. If the world ever loses power, I’d be one of the first to die—of boredom! But I guess as long as I have books and a light, I might just survive.
Looking forward, you can expect to see two more novels in the Breaking the Rules Series. I’m nearly finished with the third. Also, I have a standalone novel that will be released soon as well.
This writing experience has been a blast, and I’ve met some really fabulous people along the way. I hope my readers enjoy reading my stories as much as I do writing them. I look forward to connecting with you all!

How We Deal With Gravity by Ginger Scott

I can not ever read enough of Ginger Scott she is such a talented author
How We Deal With Gravity is her best yet!

How We Deal With Gravity introduces us to Avery Abbott who is a single mother who has a five year old son named Max. Max has Autism and Avery had to deal with him she is so patient it is just such a good feeling when you see how she deals with him. Max's dad left when he was a year old because he just could not deal with the fact that he has Autism. There is a part in the book where Adam who is Max's dad pops up and he is such a Asshole I wants to get in the book and punch him in the darn nose for the things he  says to Avery!! She is such a strong woman and I give her so much credit for being so strong with the weight of the world on her shoulders. She just feels like she cant fall apart and know every now and than she need to  let go and let loose.
That is until Mason comes back into her life. Mason has known Avery since they were little kids , Avery has been in love with him since well since forever.
Who couldn't love him he is freaking fine as ever and one HOT piece of man candy. Her dad Ray sorta took him in as his own when he was younger and he always was around.Than Mason got a record deal and moved away for 5 years, but totally screwed it up and had to move back home. Mason never seen Avery as anything other than your average girl and had no idea how Avery felt about him. When he comes back to stay with them at her dads he starts to see her in a whole new light and there romance story begins. You see it blossom in such a cute way I really liked how Ginger show cased Mason fall in love with Avery from the start it was just Perfect.I couldn't put the book down and had to see what happened!
Mason and Avery make such a wonderful story especially the way Ginger wrote about Max and how he deals with Autism it was such a remarkable subject and she did a perfect job writing about it!
I gave it 4 stars because I really wish the epilogue would have went a little in depth and gave me some more about what the future holds!

Dark Paradise by Angie Sandro

4/5 Stars
I received Dark Paradise as an ARC copy, it was different than what I normally read.
The cover gave me some excitement because it gave little away.
I have to say Dark Paradise left me breathless and begging for more so much more!
It starts off with Mala finding a body of a beautiful young girl in the Bayou in her backyard. Mala is such a sweet girl she gave the book such a great vibe.
She is going to school to become a cop and she is a tomboy who can cook a mean gumbo.
She is the daughter of the town whore and her mama wouldn't care less about her.
Oh and the town folk think that the women in Mala's family come from a long line of WITCHES! Eh Ya Louisiana and maybe witches makes one hell of a story!
The girl she discovered happens to be the Lainey the sister of a classmate named Landry.
Landry is the first bite of a yummy Beignet that you cant but help but want a second helping of.Landry has had a massive crush on Mala and has wanted her more than anyone just never has gotten the courage to talk to her but he sorta stalks her LOL.
It is kinda cute in a weird way!
"If it's a choice between my family's bullshit and your drama,I'll pick you any day."- Landry
Oh and I cant forget about George he is a deputy who is leading the case of Lainey's murder.I may add he did date Lainey a few months before she died. Mala has had the biggest crush on him since she was in high school. There is something about George  I was just not feeling I didn't care for him at all and I still have this odd vibe about him.Mala seems to like him tho so I know he will be around awhile.
What I loved about the story is it left you in suspense but not so where you were going crazy wanting to throw it down and scream.I cant really tell you much because than I will give it away. I can tell you that Mala isn't your average girl and she does see things you or me wouldn't see on a daily basis. Landry also plays a huge role and what an amazing connection Mala and Landry have it is just so strong when the book ended I was like DANG IT ANGIE seriously I sorta screamed that out loud and my son cam running in say "Mom are you OK" LOL it was pretty funny!!
Angie left off with a BOOM and I don't think I can wait until the next book so I am playing littlescenarios in my head. I am team Mala and Landry all the way, and this story was
a all out FABULOUS READ!

Chapter 2 Then
“I don’t think I can go,” I tell my mom, looking directly at her, wanting nothing more than for her to meet my gaze. She won’t—I already know that—because looking at me would mean facing the inevitable. Lily’s gone for good. Mom drums her French-manicured fingernails on the thatched placemat, the beat uneven and rushed. “The car will be here to pick us up in an hour.” Her hazel eyes, red-rimmed and swollen, focus on the kitchen window. From the looks of it, she’ll start crying again at any second. Five more drums of her fingers. A sniffle. Then two last beats. She turns her head slightly in my direction, still refusing to look at me, but I get a clear view of her face. My mother’s always been beautiful, and even with her skin splotchy from crying and her short, chestnut-colored hair uncombed, she’s still stunning in that tragic, ethereal sense. “The car comes in an hour,” she repeats before pushing away from the kitchen table and shuffling away. Even though it never left her mouth, I know the precise word that’s rolling through her mind as I hear her climb the steps and slam her bedroom door. Selfish. Maybe she’s right. But maybe, if she’d just looked at me, she would have seen that selfishness is rooted in an even deeper emotion: fear. I don’t want the last time I see my sister to be … this. That’s not a memory I think I can deal with and I'm scared to hell of it. But in the end, my dad stalks into the kitchen and motions for me to follow him. He gives me a gentle nudge toward the staircase with the instructions to get dressed and do it fast. Skin flushed, I find myself in my room. By the time I’m finished there are clothes all over the place and my chest is heaving up and down. I glare at myself in the mirror, at my chocolate brown eyes that are clear because I’ve been too numb to cry. Eyes like Lily’s. “You selfish bitch,” I mutter and make myself look away. “You’ve ruined everything.” On the way to the funeral home, none of us say a word to each other. The closer we get, the more and more I don’t mind the silence. Maybe quietness, solitude, is what I need to make it through today. I sit on the front row with my parents, unable to cry or breathe or think straight as one-by-one, people who knew my sister—who adored her—tell us how sorry they are. There’s her overachieving snob of a best friend, Kendra. The boy who broke Lily’s heart a year ago, the same one who tried, unsuccessfully, for the last year to win her back. There are teachers and teammates and her closest friends. There’s my own boyfriend, James. When he walks past, he stops for just a moment to give my hand a reassuring squeeze, but I don’t say anything to him. I don’t trust my words. *** So I continue to watch in stunned silence. There are so many people here that I don’t know that I barely notice the tall man who stops to talk to my parents. He’s speaking in a hushed voice, but the second, “Owen Delane’s brother” tumbles from his lips, my gaze snaps up. I don’t see very much of him through the sudden haze of tears, but I listen to every word, each one catching my breath. “…so sorry for what happened. For what this has done to your—” Before he can finish, my mother—the woman who’s never physically disciplined us a day in our lives, the same woman who hasn’t been able to look me in the eye since the afternoon the officers showed up to our house with the news—is on her feet, her eyes meeting his as she swings her hand roughly across his face. “What gives you the right to think you can come here?” she demands, shrugging off my dad who stands and tries to take her by the shoulders. “Will it help you sleep better at night? Do you think I care if you or your brother is sorry?” With every word, her volume rises, until she’s practically screaming. Every emotion that Delane is feeling passes over his tan face, and I can’t help but to feel for him, the brother of the man who killed my sister. Forcing my eyes down long enough for me to catch my breath, I dig my fingers into the pew beneath me. What happened to Lily wasn’t this man’s fault. Surely Mom knows that. But the more I try to reason with myself, the more bitter I feel. *** When I look back up, Delane’s back is straight and his expression is unreadable. His eyes sweep over me for a brief moment, just long enough for him to give me a solemn nod, and then he turns on his heel and walks away. I know every head inside the funeral home is turned on him, so I look at my mother instead. My father has pulled her back down to a sitting position, and she buries her face in the crook of his neck, sobbing uncontrollably. Dad looks ahead—quiet and tearless—his gaze pointed on the white casket that’s not even ten feet away from us. And behind us, I know there’s more crying. Hushed whispers because my mom just decked a guy. I can’t hear any of it. There’s a blaring in my ears. A pressure sitting on my chest. And suddenly, I’m on my feet, my gaze pointed down at my parents. “I’m so sorry,” I whisper, finally breaking my silence. I don’t fully realize that I’ve left the building until the brisk fall air knocks me in the face. It, combined with the tears that have begun to fall, stings my cheeks. A second after my foot touches the bottom step I feel a hand clamp down on my shoulder. I half-expect it to be my father, but when I spin around, I come face to face with Kendra. In spite of everything she must be going through herself, her eyebrows are pulled together over her dark brown eyes in concern over me. And I’ve been nothing but a bitch to this girl since she and my sister became friends in middle school. Kendra presses her lips together and then lets out a breath. “Evie … where are you going?” The sad reality is, I don’t even know. “Oh God, Kendra. I’ve fucked everything up.” Immediately, she wraps her arm around me, drawing a gasp, and a sob, from the back of my throat. I drop my head against her shoulder. “I don’t even have the—” “Shut up,” Kendra orders in a calm voice as she holds me even tighter. “Shut up and stop trying to do this on your own. You shouldn’t.” She releases me, takes a step back, and braces herself. “I don’t want to do it on my own either, okay?” For the next ten minutes, she and I sit together on that bottom step. Neither of us says a word, and I’m almost certain neither of us manages more than a few breaths, but she doesn’t leave and I won’t either. Finally, at the sound of Lily’s favorite ReginaSpektor song—the one I’d suggested we use for the slideshow—Kendra stands and jerks her head to the front door of the funeral home. “Hey, Evie?” she whispers tearfully. “We can help each other, okay?” Nodding, I stumble to my feet, brushing my palms over my skirt to smooth off any dirt. But as I go back inside and take my spot beside my parents, letting a song about not saying goodbye burn into my brain, I can’t help but wonder what Owen Delane’sbrother would have said if he’d finished speaking.
